Description | Practice your close & open voicings and work on improvisation with this classic standard "All The Things You Are" Close voicings are often called "rootless voicings", or - when played in the left hand - "left hand voicings". For maj7 and min7 chords we use 9th chords (maj9 and min9) without the root. For dom7 chords we use guide tones + 9 and 13, again without the root. You can also use these LH voicings to comp behind a soloist or behind yourself while soloing in the RH. Open voicings (or "spread voicings") are the most complete voicings we use in jazz. They consist of root - guide tones (3 & 7) - tensions - melody. Since we use both hands to play these open voicings, we have plenty of space to add extensions or to use alterations and reharmonizations. Notice we only play 2 notes in the LH (1 & 3 or 1 & 7)! * Free pdf of the sheet music: https://bit.ly/2U94uup 0:00 Practice the close voicings in the LH * Pause or slow down the video if necessary |
